次回この記事の日本語版を投稿します。 As mentioned in Part 1 I set out to build a rear wheel for my light carrier Sekine using a 2 speed internally geared hub, 26 x 1 3/4 BE rim and #13 gauge spokes. Finding a 26 x 1 3/4 and #13 spokes is not easy. I was fortunate enough to find a new old-stock rim manufactured by Ukai. I ordered spokes from Hoshi Kogyo , established over 90 years ago and the only remaining Japanese spoke manufacturer. #13 gauge spokes come in two varieties: 1. #13 gauge (2.3mm) with a 4.0mm head and 5.3mm neck, these take a #14 size nipple 2. #13 gauge (2.3mm) with a 4.6mm head and 6.0mm neck. The photo below shows from top to bottom: 1. #14 (2.0mm) 2. #13 (2.3mm) with a 4mm head and 5.3mm neck, these take a #14 size nipple. 3. #13 gauge (2.3mm) with a 4.6mm head and 6.0mm neck and take a #13 size nipple.. 2015晩秋 更科峠 最近夜勤疲れで休みの午前中は人と約束でもしない限りだるくて家でだらだらしがち 気持ちは大好きな信州の峠を思い切り走りたいが身体は拒絶している でも冬が到来して走れなくなる前に信州に行きたい。 そんな訳で車にランドナーとシュラフをぶち込んで上信越道で長野へ 高井富士（高社山）湯田中周辺より 小布施道の駅より林檎畑の中を通って更科峠へ ＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝

次回この記事の日本語版を投稿します。 This is an internally geared 2 speed hub dating back about 50 years. I plan to use this to build a 26 x 1 3/4 BE rim with #13 spokes for my light carrier Sekine . Light carrier is a misnomer as it weighs 36 kilograms. The beauty of this 2 speed hub is that the gearing is internal, and, moreover, it doesn't use any cables. It is operated by pedaling backwards a third of a turn. Here's a breakdown diagram and instructions. The hub was manufactured by Yamamoto Iron Works based in Osaka. A quick check revealed that the company was founded in 1915, 100 years ago and is still in business. The hub is beautifully chromed, and, by today's standards is heavy weighing in at over 2 kilograms.! It has an oil port and oil cap. Typically these hubs were oiled every 6 months. 2015/10/18 国内最高峰のロードレース.ジャパンカップの観戦に行ってきました。 コースは1990年日本で初めて世界戦が行われた宇都宮森林公園周辺古賀志林道を中心としたコース あれから25年日本での趣味の自転車人口は当時と比べ物にならない程になり世界中から応援が駆けつける 世界戦以上の盛り上がりと観客動員数になっていました。 グランツールで走る選手をこれだけ間近で見られる日本随一のレースだと思います。 市街でのクリテリウムレース が終わった17日夜から宇都宮入りしましたが 宇都宮の街は凄い盛り上がり様、まるでサッカーのサポーターの様に宇都宮の街中には 自転車関連のウェアを着たファンであふれホテルでも半分ぐらいの宿泊客が恐らく観戦に来た人か 関係者といった様子でした。 ...

この記事は次回日本語版を投稿します。 Many Westerners learn to speak Japanese, but reading& writing is another story. Certainly the most formidable obstacle is kanji (Chinese characters). When I first arrived in Japan I was amazed at kanji, there are just so many. In English we have just 26 letters; however the standard kanji ( Joyo Kanji) there are 2,136 characters. Elementary school kids learn 1,006 of these characters ( Kyoiku Kanji). Writing kanji is an art, literally. A couple of years back I did a post on a price chart from 1935 (Japanese only) . Below is a bicycle repair price chart dating back to 1965. It is written by hand using a brush ( fude 筆）. The chart is so well done that at a glance one would think it were mass-produced printing, yet a close look reveals that it is written by hand.
