Bicycle Restoration (Before After Video)

来週、この記事の日本語版を投稿します。 Most of the bicycles I restore are listed as"JUNK" on Yahoo auction. Admittedly most are in rough shape and the majority of people write them off as just junk. But under the rust, under the grime and crudd are treasures. For example, last year I found a 1954 Magnet Bicycle listed as JUNK on Yahoo auction. This bicycle was awarded the prestigeous Ministry of Industry and Trade's"Best Bicycle of the Year 1954". Long story short, I was the only bidder and scored a great bicycle for a few bucks. The beauty of old things is that they are over-engineered and built to last a lifetime. So with a little elbow grease she cleaned up real well. 今日は朝、メッキ屋さんに寄ってから店に行くと郵便受けに謎めいたメッセージとともになんとケーキの差し入れが。。。
４月１５日 AM９時４０分 タルト。では、また。K.K
一瞬、「これって大丈夫？」と思いましたが、頂いたケーキに懐かしい馴染みを感じたので食べちゃいました。
葛野大路七条東入るの「キシモト」のタルト。美味しかったです。

桜満開

待ちに待った桜が咲いたこの週末、アイズの回りもすごい人手でしたよ。でもほとんどが観光客なので店内まで入ってくる方はいつもより少ないくらい。落ち着いた一日といえば聞こえはいいのですが、本心はちょっと浮かれた観光客がうらやましい一日でした。
お陰さまで溜まってた仕事が少しはかどりました。納品済みの自転車たちも更に ギャラリーページ にアップしました。

実はもう一つ、ワックス系のものも２種類試したことがあるのですけども、どこかにやってしまいました。 かなりの数でしょう。 今のお気に入りは、左端のGT-Oilです。 大メーカーどころか個人の製品ですが、レスポ（右から三つめの黄色いスプレー缶）みたいに、走っている間に飛び散ってリムに付着したりすることもなく、持ちも良い。 それでいて軽さ、チェーン音の小ささはレスポ並みです。 あと、スプレーでは無いので、出すぎで量が無駄になりません。 おまけに安い。 他に、Prolinkも良かったけれど、踏み出しの軽さはレスポよりもやや劣るような気がします。 BooDew（紫の容器）はかなり前に使っていてどうだったか忘れてしまいましたが、たしか持ちはこの中では一番良かったと思います。 悪くはなかっ ...

Frame Covers

次回、この記事の日本語版を投稿します。 Bicycles manufactured in the 1950's had a frame cover, something you don't see these days. Bicycle frame covers wrapped around the top tube and were made of various materials including cloth (suede), leather and vinyl. (Click on the photos to enlarge.) These frame covers served both as an advertisement as well as protection. Certainly add a nice touch of class to the frame's appearance. Note the Nichibei Fuji mark . Here is a cloth (suede) frame cover from Nichibei Fuji. Maruishi Premeir frame cover. Note how this frame cover is laced on. (second photo below). Most frame covers from the 1950's had metal rails on each side. The rails can clearly be seen on the back side of the frame cover. The frame covers were rolled around the top tube and secured in place by clips. As seen in the photo below, the clips slide on the rails and keep the frame cover from unfurling. Here ...
